Ed’Intl. is launching the Global Citizen Project (GCP) for the 2009-2010 academic year in Oakland Unified School District High School’s. The GCP is a year-round after-school program that develops leaders in global citizenship. Students will receive mentoring, training around service learning, internships, social entrepreneurship and the Model U.N. The curriculum is designed to engage youth in their own learning through the use of a wide range of active and participatory learning methods.

The goal of the program will be to:

  • Create responsible global citizens
  • Increase the emotional resiliency of our students
  • Improve their attendance
  • Improve academic performance
  • Cultivate peer/adult relationships
  • Prepare all students for a college education

Participating students will be lead in workshops that prepare them for the following experiential learning activities:

  • Community based Service-Learning projects addressing human rights/sustainable development
  • Multi-Media dialogues with Latin American youth through the Bio Diesel Project
  • Fundraising through the development of direct trade coffee business
  • Preparation for Model United Nations Conference on Climate Change
  • Internships with a human rights/sustainable development focus for 2010-2011

Expansion
